Get Involved

The TAA is a volunteer run organization. Your involvement, even if it's just taking part in a volunteer night, helps the union run smoothly and allows the union to best serve the members. E-mail the office to find out about volunteer opportunities and to get active! More information about getting involved is detailed below.

How to join

To become a member of the TAA, you must sign a membership card. You can get a card from your departmental steward by calling the TAA office (256-4375) or by filling out a membership card.

Attending General Membership Meetings

General Membership Meetings, or GMMs, are the TAA-wide meetings where the most important union decisions are made. For example, the yearly budget, bargaining platform and endorsements of political candidates are all voted on at GMMs.

As a TAA member, coming to GMMs and voting is one of the most important ways you can influence the direction of your union. GMMs typically happen about once a month during the academic year. See the calendar for upcoming GMM dates and locations.

TAA Committees

One great way to ensure a strong union is to volunteer your time, creativity and skills by serving on or chairing a union committee!

The TAA has seven standing committees: Contract Enforcement, Diversity, Education, Labor Solidarity, Organizing, Political Education and Publicity. If you have any questions about any committees or would like to get involved, email or call the office (256-4375).

Current Campaigns

To find out more about what's going on right now in the TAA, check out the Current Campaigns page.

Active campaigns include bargaining, overwork issues, political issues, union solidarity and university policy on graduate funding.
